Head Coach - Matthew Newby

Matthew NewbyCoach Newby is now coming into this third year as Leeds Carnegie Men’s basketball Head Coach.  He received his degree in 2003 from St Martins College Lancaster in Sport Studies and Applied Social Sciences and is an EBBA Level III Advanced coach which he earned under the EBBA mentorship program. He has enjoyed a 12 year coaching career working on all levels of the performance continuum. 

Throughout his three year reign as Head Coach Matt Newby has led the Leeds Carnegie basketball program to two National League promotions, a National Shield Championship, the National League Division 3 League and Playoff Championship and a BUCS Final 8 bronze medal.  Coach Newby has been twice honoured with National League Coach of the Year, once in Division 4 and again last year in National League Division 3. 

Coach Newby has coached at a number of programs including Preston Pride, York Vikings, St Martins College and the Royal Air Force U23’s.  He also continues his professional development each summer by touring the USA, coaching on prestigious basketball camps such as Five Star and the Hoop Group’s Eastern Invitational.

Assistant Coach - Bob Muir

Bob muirAssistant Coach Bob Muir is beginning his second year with the Leeds Carnegie basketball program.  Coach Muir spent last year as the assistant coach of the Men’s National League Division 3 team and helped lead the team to their eventual promotion into National League Division 2.  Assistant Coach Bob Muir worked as the assistant coach for six years with the Men’s English Basketball National Division One team the Teesside Mohawks during which time the club won the National Trophy four seasons in a row, three of which included the domestic treble (winning the National Trophy, National Cup and National Division One title in the same season).
